Who is a Doctor ?

Doctors are the professionals licensed to practice medicine, as surgeons, physicians, and veterinarians. Doctors work for diagnosis, study, prognosis, and treatment of diseases, injury, disorders, and other physical & mental impairments.




What are the degrees needed to become a doctor ?

A bachelor's degree i.e. MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), and a postgraduate qualification such as a master's degree is needed to study doctorate or Ph.D.

M.D: [3 years]   ⇔  M.S: [3 Years]

What are the major categories of health services they provide?

1. Preventive Health Services: As a health professional, The first and foremost priority will be to prevent the general public from disease. So they provide various methods to attain a healthy lifestyle and to be prevented from diseases. They help us to maintain a balanced diet and avoid any kind of abuse and other things.

2. Promotive Health Services: This service is provided for someone likely to have any kind of disease. This service primarily focuses on particular diseases to avoid that disease. It enables people to increase control over and improve their health.

3. Curative Health Services: Curative health services are provided to a person who is contaminated with a disease. It helps to heal and care for the patient, not just reducing their pain or stress.

4. Rehabilitative Health Services: It aims to provide differently-abled people with the tools they need to experience and interact with their environments. It also helps people to get rid of different kinds of addiction.


What are the types of doctors?

  • General Surgeon: They can operate on all the parts of the body.
  • Cardiologist: They have expertise in the treatment and diagnosis of heart and blood vessels.
  • Dentist: They help to maintain teeth and gums.
  • Pulmonologist: They treat lung diseases.
  • Psychiatrist: They help to attain mental health.
  • Physiatrist: They are experts in physical medicine and rehabilitation. They treat back or neck pain, spinal cord, or sports-related injuries, and other disabilities caused by accidents or diseases.
  • Pathologist: They examine body tissues and fluids.
  • Pediatrician: They are doctors of children.
  • Ophthalmologist: Eye health care is provided by an ophthalmologist.
  • Nephrologist: They treat problems of kidney and high blood pressure as well.
  • Neurologist: They are specialists in the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
  • Obstetrician & Gynecologist: Obstetricians care for pregnant women and gynecologists focus on women's reproductive health.
  • Oncologist: They are cancer specialists.
  • Osteopath: They are fully licensed medical doctors who approach the whole body.
  • Podiatrist: They treat ankles and feet.
  • Plastic Surgeon: They are cosmetic surgeons who repair or rebuild skins, hands, breasts, or body.
  • Radiologist: They use ultrasound, X-rays, and imaging tests to diagnose disease.
  • Rheumatologist: They are specialized in arthritis and problems of joints, muscles, tendons, and bones.
  • Urologist: They provide care for problems in the urinary tract.
  • Geneticist: They are experts in the field of hereditary disorders.
  • Hematologist: They're specialist in diseases of the blood, spleen,         and lymph glands.
  • Gastroenterologists: They help to treat diseases related to digestive organs that are the stomach, bowel, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, etc.
  • Family Physicians: They are family doctors who care for members of the family.
  • Dermatologists: They solve problems relating to skin, hair, and nails.
  • Colon and rectal Surgeon: They view problems related to the small intestine, colon, and bottom.
  • Anesthesiologists: They give drugs to numb your body parts for surgery.
  • Allergist/Immunologist: They provide treatment of immune system disorders and autoimmune diseases.
  • Endocrinologists: They are experts on metabolism and hormones.
  • Otolaryngologists: They treat diseases of the ears, throat, nose, sinuses, head, neck, and respiratory system.

Is it hard to study M.B.B.S. in Nepal ?

- Yes, Medicine is one of the hardest fields to study in Nepal. To build a career in the medical field One needs to do many struggles and hard work to build a career in the medical field and it is even harder in the context of our country. The main barrier for a student in Nepal can be their economic standard. The approximate cost to study M.B.B.S. is about NRs. 50-60 lakhs which is too much for a normal family to afford. Most of the students take loans to study medicine in Nepal and most of them struggle for a long time to even repay the amount.
Although, with great hard work and consistency, many students have got scholarships and successfully build their career but the seat is limited and competition is very high.


How much does the professional earn ?

- As for salary we can't give a straight answer as the packages may depend upon types, experience, place, and many more things. The initial salary can be NRs. 35,000 but with experience and enhancement in skill. Professionals who have obtained the needed skill earn amounts ranging from NRs. 8 lakhs to 10 lakhs per annum. But anyone can earn more than this with the necessary qualification and skills.
