Science and logic behind cultural and traditional practices!
What are culture and tradition?
Are culture and tradition related to religion?
- A big No. Our ancestors make habits, ideas, customs, beliefs,
etc. to make their life easier and if these things are followed by
generations, they are called culture and tradition. So, these are things that people have followed in history but
religion is a different thing, it's an ideology of believing in the existence of God. So, it's not fair to relate
religion with culture and tradition.
People haven't understood this simple concept that is
being the reason for conflict and debate.
Why do various things of our tradition and culture
seem unfair?
-I think now we have got the reason, it is because it
was made by our ancestors for their convenience. Let's clarify the reason.
Reasons why some parts of our tradition seem logic less and unfair:
- Lack of knowledge behind the actual reason
behind doing that thing: Things that today, seem unfair or logic less maybe have a need or reason to do in that
time. But due to lack of the proper information as those things are not necessary due to the generation gap, we
might think they have no reason to follow.
- Not knowing the science behind those things:
The time is evolving but it doesn't mean that people had no scientific knowledge. Only the way of knowing and
visualizing science is changed which we have not understood yet.
Why people didn't tell the science behind doing those things and relate it
with religious things?
- Now we have developed the concept of visualizing
things scientifically. But at that time, there was lack of education and people had strong scientific beliefs. They
couldn't tolerate any new things and anything that may question their religion, culture, and traditions. So at that
time, people who started rituals knowing the science behind things relate it to religion so that no one can raise
questions about that thing.
These are some useful practices we should do that
our tradition says:
- Sleeping pointing head in the south: It is always suggested in our culture for pointing head in the south while sleeping. It is because our earth has a very strong magnetic field and the brain has polar-like attraction. To attract opposite poles, we should sleep pointing our head in the south direction.
- Cutting hair on specific days: It is because on specific days like Saturday, Thursday and Tuesday, certain rays come out of the planet which may harm our head.
- Avoid sleeping in the evening: It has a pretty obvious reason as our sleep of the whole night gets disturbed if we sleep in the evening.
- Don't go near peepal at night: Actually not only peepal but we should not go near any trees at night because plants only inhale Carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen during the day for photosynthesis. At night, they do the same as animals do so we may suffocate as the plant is also taking oxygen in.
The logic of some
superstitions:
The Sati Pratha:
Sati pratha is the practice in which wife gets on fire alive if her husband dies. It is against humanity and
is now ended but it was important at the time of kingdoms because if one kingdom was won by another kingdom,
the male warriors used to use the females of lost kingdoms for enjoyment and even rape and prostitute. So, the
females used to die by themselves. But it, unfortunately, was followed from generation to
generation.
Women separated during menstruation: According to this belief, women are not allowed to do any religious things. It
was formed in ancient times and it was the right thing at that time because, at that time, the temples were
far, mostly in height or jungles, as women are weaker and they also bleed during menstruation, so there was a
high risk of getting attacked of wild animals. Also, menstruation is a hard time for females, it was a nice
idea to rest but by the time, people take this thing to extreme levels and added nonsensible things. Also,
today we have no need to fear any animals, and the health sector is improved too.
Why were these superstitions existing?
It was
just because no one tried to raise a question about why were we doing these things, no one was interested in
knowing the reason, knowing the science of doing these things.
" We tried and we
are getting successful.
So, Now Let's try
to explore our culture, tradition, our religion.
Let's not just
leave or avoid these things,
let's try to find
the truth.
It's not science vs
culture or religion or tradition.
It's the science behind
religion, culture, and tradition. "
